Erika Jayne Opens Up for First Time About Why She Filed for Divorce From Tom Girardi in New ‘RHOBH’
Erika Jayne explains for the first time why she filed for divorce from Tom Girardi in new “RHOBH”
Jayne, 49, joined her co-stars for a group lunch in an episode shot in November – shortly after Jayne filed for divorce – and she explained how her life “changed dramatically this week.”
“I gave up my Lamborghini, I let down my 16,000 square foot house, I let down my marriage – I let it all go,” she shared. “I literally made a decision that I had to make.”
In a faith-based interview, Jayne shared with the RHOBH cameras, “I left because he pushed me further and further. The conversations I had before were now reduced to a sentence or two.”
“I kept walking around this house and knowing that this marriage was heading down a very complicated path, I had to make the choice to do what was right for me,” she added. “I couldn’t live like this anymore.”
The news of her divorce, after 20 years of marriage, came as a real surprise to many of her co-stars, some of whom felt hurt that she did not confide in them.
“Neither of you knew that on purpose, because it would put you in a bad position if I had to give you information that you needed to keep,” Jayne told her friends and co-stars, adding, “It doesn’t serve me any good either. more to talk a lot about what’s going on legally, or will happen legally, because I’m married to someone who is very good at it. “
The singer and reality TV star explained that she “had a good 30 days shutting down parts of my life” before filing the case, and “cried every day.”
“It was the end of a lot of my life and a step into a void,” Jayne explained.
However, Jayne also shared how she thought a lot about how she wanted to try to keep her divorce from making the headlines.
“I filed the file on election day because I wanted him to be buried,” Jayne said. “I was like, ‘This is great. This is the most important historic election in modern times, and it’s going to be echoed on the radar. It will pass, and no one will know.'”
However, the story did not end up being as buried as it had hoped and still received a lot of coverage at the time.
Spending time with the co-star Lisa rinnaJayne revealed that she had given her husband no indication that she would leave him or file for a divorce.
“I didn’t leave a note,” she recalls. “I drove him to work and told him I love him and he said, ‘Thank you, honey.’ As if I were an employee … [then] I got home and started putting everything in the moving truck. I left, I went to my new home, I spent the night there and it was served the next morning. “
A month after Jayne filed for divorce, Girardi was forced into involuntary bankruptcy. In December, a legal action has been filed against the couple on behalf of several families who lost loved ones in the Lion Air Flight 610 crash in October 2018.
Girardi allegedly embezzled settlement money that was supposed to go to family members of the victims. Girardi and Jayne are accused of using the money to fund their own lavish lifestyles and are said to have paid off loans to keep Girardi’s law firm afloat.
In February, Girardi was placed under provisional guardianship. In March, a psychiatrist told the courts that Tom suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and was unable to attend to his personal or financial affairs.
Earlier this month, Jayne’s lawyers filed a request for withdrawal because his lawyers in Girardi’s Chapter 7 bankruptcy case. Subsequently, a petition filed by the bankruptcy trustee investigating Girardi’s assets claims several of Jayne’s businesses received over $ 20 million in loans over several years, issued by the Girardi law firm.
